#5 Discovering the Conero!
Ancona holds a small hidden treasure: the ancient fishermen's caves located in the center, precisely under the cliffs of the Passetto. These caves, dug into the rock, date back to the 1800s and for a long time have offered refuge to Ancona fishermen, serving as a shelter for their small boats. Today these cavities are still perfectly preserved and represent a unique testimony of the city's past.
To reach the caves, you need to take the characteristic staircase that leads from the Monumento ai Caduti to the Passetto beach: once you reach sea level, you find yourself in front of the picturesque caves with colored doors , which today are the summer residence of the "grottaroli".
